Rena is one of our small group leaders for United at our Keller campus that was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Last night we heard her story that she shared with our students. A message of faith, hope, and courage. Rena shared with boldness as our students listened intently. Some even wiping tears from their eyes. Our students were reminded how short this life really is and were inspired to take action in their faith like never before. Because of one person’s courage to share her story, God used her story to inspire hundreds of students across DFW. Last night was a night that we won’t soon forget.

Last spring break one of our 16 year old students, Colby White, served on a mission trip to India along with 6 other students from United. It was there, in India that Colby decided to do something about the need that he saw. Colby decided to use use his gifts and talents to make a difference in India through his passion for skateboarding. His dream was to replace the run down broken skateboards that these kids in India were using brand new skateboards.

  Colby came home and got to work making this dream happen. He did his research, finding out how much it would cost to purchase skateboards for kids in India. Colby’s goal was to raise $1,500 dollars. For several months he mowed lawns and worked side jobs to raise $500 of his own money.

  During our Stories series at United, Colby shared a dream with our students at United and encouraged them to make a difference in the world also. Not only were our students inspired to make a difference they were also inspired to help Colby’s dream become a reality. Together at all 3 campuses our United students and volunteers gave $1,2500 for brand new skateboards in India!!! Students gave their summer job money; gave their weekly allowance money; they gave all they had to help make someones dream come true to make a difference a kids’ lives in India.

  That’s what United is all about. Making a difference around the world as well as in our own world and doing whatever it takes to make it happen. We saw last Wednesday night that our students just don’t talk about change but they do something about it. I am so excited to see where God is going to lead the students at United this year! The possibilities are endless!!
