Our one job is to abide in Jesus. Abide means to make your home in Jesus, to make yourself complete there.
A - Attach to Jesus. Say yes to Him. He invites you to be a part of Him.
B - Bear fruit. Don’t be a fruit chaser. Instant is not a good thing for your spiritual life. Our culture chases outcomes,
Jesus is calling us to obedience. Just like the grapevine goes through seasons without fruit, so will we.
I - Intimately know Jesus. You can’t share Jesus truly, if you don’t know Him. The love that Jesus spoke of is for me.
D - Dwell in obedience. Obey His commands. Jesus narrowed the commandments down to two: Love the Lord your
God and Love your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:27
E - Experience His joy. Joy not based in circumstances. In everything you face, you can live with joy.
What does it mean to abide in Jesus?
What does abiding in Jesus, day to day, practically look like? What steps can you take to abide in him?
What’s the difference between a fruit bearer and a fruit chaser? What can you do to become a fruit bearer?
Sometimes there are seasons where you are waiting to bear fruit. What season do you think you are in?
What are some ways you continued to abide in Jesus during a past barren season?
Despite your inadequacies, are you aware how much Jesus loves you? How can you be reminded of his love?
What are some ways you can share the love of Jesus with others?
How can we experience the full joy Jesus has to offer us? What about during hard times?
What does the act of communion have to do with abiding in Jesus?
John 15:1-11 - The Vine and the Branches -“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
Galatians 6:9 - 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Romans 8:38-39 - 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 10:10 - 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 6:56 - 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
